What is Residential Care?

Residential Care is the general care and support provided to older people in a residential care home. It is often referred to as "personal care" or "assisted living" and typically involves assistance with elderly care and basic everyday needs such as washing, dressing, mobility assistance, and so on.

Why is Residential Care important?

Residential Care can be pivotal in improving quality of life. If a loved one's care needs can no longer be met at home, moving into a residential care home can alleviate any associated pressures and worries. Living in a care home brings a multitude of benefits, including safety, companionship, and peace of mind knowing that your loved one is receiving the care they need when they need it.

A Safe and Secure Environment

Surroundings have a huge impact on our quality of life. Our residential home has been purpose-built and considerately designed for our residents; helping to promote as independent and stress-free a life as possible. Loved ones can find peace of mind knowing relatives are living within a safe and secure environment. Resident's safety is protected by a variety of laws covering the provision of community care. Find out more about the Scottish Legislation protecting people in care.

Social Benefits

One of the benefits of residential care is the group living environment among like minded individuals, where older adults can socialise with other residents and form close friendships. We believe all residents should be able to make the most of every day, no matter their age, ability, or physical limitations. Actively encouraging residents to continue doing the activities that make them happy is essential to caring for their overall well being, and many care homes offer plenty of activities and facilities such as landscaped gardens, an in-house hair salon or cinema room. We do everything we can to provide residents with everything they need to live the life they deserve, with the option of enjoying their days peacefully alone or socialising with fellow residents.

24-hour Support from Skilled Care Staff

Our compassionate staff provides around-the-clock support, ensuring prompt and attentive care, 24-hours a day. Teams are fully trained to both understand and deal with all aspects of elderly healthcare and take great pride in providing the highest levels of care and respect for every individual. Every member of staff receives regular training so they are fully equipped to support residents and loved ones. Each resident will also have their own personalised care plan created by a team of trained staff

Regular, Nutritious Meals

Eating and drinking properly is often the main concern when it comes to the elderly; getting the right nutrients is important at any stage of life but perhaps even more so at old age. When living in a residential care home, residents should be presented with delicious and diverse menus every day. Many care homes will use local suppliers, where the chef and kitchen staff take into account food preferences as well as cultural and dietary needs. Regular and nutritious meals play an important role in overall senior care, and the chefs ensure residents enjoy the benefits a well-balanced and delicious meal can provide.

Peace of Mind

If your loved one is living in a care home, knowing that they are safe and well looked after at all times is reassuring. From assisting with washing and dressing to administering medicine, residents have qualified staff on hand 24-hours a day.

Encouraged Independence and Identity

Our staff is dedicated to providing residents with comprehensive care that includes an enriching and supportive atmosphere, the opportunity to form new friendships, and an abundance of personal memories to cherish. Our entire staff works tirelessly to support everyone, ensuring that everyone who lives with us has all they require to live a happy and productive life that is unique to them and their desires.

Varying Types of Care Available

Many care homes will offer more than just Residential Care. Some offer additional specialised care such as Dementia and Nursing, and even Respite or Day Care. Our experienced and highly skilled staff are able to provide tailored care to older people which includes personal care, medical care, medication management and mobility support.

“My dad has been a resident in Haddington Care Home for 18 months. He settled in well enjoying the beautifully furnished/decorated home and secure garden/terrace… His room, bedding, and en-suite toilet/shower room are always immaculate as is every other area.

My dad is very well cared for, he is always clean and tidy, and the carers take time on a one-to-one basis getting to know each resident and their needs… Dad recently spent a short time in hospital, I was very impressed with how everything was managed. The staff ensured he had everything he needed and kept me informed every step of the way. I highly recommend Haddington Care Home and the wonderful team.”
