Private Secure Gardens

Our private, secure gardens offer something truly unique to our residents, with a six-hole putting green and a dedicated pétanque area for them to enjoy at their leisure. These outdoor spaces are designed to be welcoming to all residents, with access available via stairs or a side gate, and seating areas placed throughout, ensuring rest is always within easy reach. Whether someone wishes to spend time quietly among nature, enjoy a gentle stroll, or join friends for a game, the gardens provide opportunities for both calm reflection and sociable moments. Fresh air is encouraged as part of everyday life here, and there is always a reason to step outside, whether it’s for a casual conversation or a planned activity.

When conditions are right, we make full use of our grounds for events and entertainment. Summer has previously brought cocktail afternoons, pie and pint days, afternoon teas and live performers to the garden. Residents who are less mobile or hesitant about venturing outside are supported through gentle encouragement and one-to-one activities, such as a short walk or a game in a shaded area, so everyone can participate in outdoor life in a way that suits them.

Large & Enclosed Outside Area

The enclosed nature of our gardens provides peace of mind, with secure fencing and handrails fitted on all stairs to ensure safety. Shaded areas are available under large parasols during warmer weather, creating comfortable spots to rest, watch the wildlife, or meet with family and friends. Our putting green and pétanque space bring a recreational dimension to the outdoors, while classic games such as Jenga, ball games and Connect 4 encourage participation and friendly fun. All outdoor activities are communicated to residents through the activities schedule, so everyone knows what is planned and can choose what appeals to them.

We balance organised events with the freedom for residents to use the space whenever they wish. Whether they want to join others for a planned activity or simply take in the surroundings, the garden is always open and inviting.

Maintaining The Garden

Gardening is a valued part of life here, thanks to raised beds that make planting easier for everyone. Residents help choose the plants and often visit the garden centre to select herbs that are later used in our kitchen. Flowers, herbs and other plants are tended with care, giving the garden colour and fragrance throughout the year. These activities offer independence and purpose for our residents, ensuring everyone feels part of our community.

We also involve residents in decisions about the garden space itself. The addition of the putting green was discussed with them before installation, as it is important to us that new features reflect the interests of the people who live here. Whether they are planting seasonal flowers, selecting herbs for cooking, or taking part in themed outdoor days, residents are actively involved in shaping a garden that is theirs in spirit as well as in use.

Private Secure Gardens FAQs

We believe that residents should get outside regularly, take in the fresh air, engage in outdoor activities, and enjoy nature to aid with overall well-being. Being outdoors provides many mental and physical benefits such as reducing stress and anxiety, improving overall mood and improving cardiovascular health, balance, and muscle strength.

A few of the outdoor activities that residents can partake in include walking, gardening, lawn games, and chair exercises. When the weather permits, residents can dine outside and enjoy live entertainment.

In order to make our garden accessible to all, we have wheelchair-accessible paths and seated furniture. Our private garden is also safe and secure with sturdy fencing and gates, to prevent residents from going beyond the garden walls. Our paths are well-maintained and there is lighting to help prevent falls or other accidents.
