Sheba The Therapy Dog Makes her Big Debut at Haddington Care Home!
This month, the residents of Haddington Care Home in East Lothian were overjoyed to receive a visit from Sheba, a therapy dog. Our residents were able to interact with Sheba on a 1 to 1 basis.
With her gentle presence, Sheba sparked memories of pets of the past and allowed our residents to share their stories with her owner, staff and one another. For residents who can't talk to Sheba and her owner, petting her helped them feel connected and show their admiration.
Pet therapy plays a valuable role in enhancing the quality of life, particularly those living with Dementia by providing a source of comfort, joy and social connection, improving their wellbeing.
At Haddington Care Home, we continuously seek out engaging activities to support the mental health and wellbeing of our residents, by incorporating pet therapy into our activities, we can provide our residents with a simple yet incredibly valuable interaction, providing them with a sense of comfort and happiness.
As you can see from the photos above, Sheba brought joy to our residents, igniting cherished memories and fostering meaningful interactions. This experience also significantly enhanced the mood of all residents. We eagerly await Sheba's next visit and are already planning to gift her a Haddington Care Home mascot bandana as a token of appreciation!
