Riverside Putting Green Opens with a Swing

Over the past month, our dedicated maintenance officers, Sandy and Alistair, have been hard at work transforming our garden area and creating something truly special—our very own putting green!
We were proud to officially open the Riverside Putting Green on Monday, 19th June. To mark the occasion, we were delighted to welcome Cameron Donaldson, Assistant Professional from Craigielaw Golf Club. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Cameron spent time chatting with our residents and sharing some expert tips.

The highlight of the day came when Sheila, a former member of Haddington Golf Club, challenged Cameron to a light-hearted ‘beat the pro’ competition—much to everyone’s delight! Keeping a close eye on proceedings was Jim, a former member of Muirfield Golf Club, who made sure everything was played fair and square.
The event took place to celebrate something really special for our residents—the opening of our very own Riverside Putting Green. Living in the heart of a golfing community, many of our residents have fond memories of playing the game, so we wanted to bring a bit of that joy and familiarity right to their doorstep. We wanted to create a space where residents can stay active, enjoy the outdoors, and reconnect with a sport that means a lot to them. It’s also a great way to encourage socialising, laughter, and a bit of friendly competition—all of which are so important for wellbeing.
The new putting green has already made such a positive difference. For our residents, it’s brought back happy memories and given them a fun, relaxed way to stay active and spend time outdoors. It’s been lovely to see people light up with excitement—whether they’re having a go themselves, cheering others on, or simply enjoying the atmosphere.

It’s also been a boost for our team. Seeing residents so engaged and happy is why we do what we do. The green has created more chances for meaningful moments—little chats, shared laughter, and even some gentle competition. And because we’re in a community where golf is such a big part of local life, it’s helped us feel even more connected to that heritage. Having visitors like Cameron from Craigielaw Golf Club come along made the day feel special for everyone involved.
