Haddington Care Home prides itself on offering a diverse range of activities for residents to choose to enjoy and on Thursday 5th October, the home had a first when a small herd of alpacas visited.

Provided by John Muir Alpacas, they were a huge hit as they made their way around the home meeting with the residents who were enthralled by their presence and the alpacas equally enjoyed the extensive stroking, cuddling, feeding and general attention.  For some of our residents, this was their first time getting up close to an alpaca and it just goes to show that you’re never too old to experience new things!

An activity such as Animal Therapy enables residents to reminisce about a time when they may have had an animal or pet of their own. at Haddington, we believe it's important for residents to engage with animals as the presence of animals can provide emotional support, reduce stress levels, and enhance communication and sensory stimulation.

Leigh Young, the newly appointed Home Manager commented ‘My aim for Haddington is that we not only provide the very best care but also a lifestyle that offers enrichment and variety for our residents.  Having the alpacas visit was just one of some new activities that we’ve been offering, and which have been a total hit with the residents and team alike.

Leigh went on to further comment, ‘Often there is a myth that when people move into a care home they no longer have the opportunity to continue with hobbies and interests or to try new things.  Haddington has been founded on the belief that everyone deserves to live a complete and meaningful life and the team takes pride in providing a loving and supportive environment where everyone can live a full and enriched life.
